Color Dare #190: The Over the Rainbow Edition

Color Dare 190

This week’s Color Dare uses a rainbow of colors: Ruby, Honey, Pear, Gypsy, and Colonial White. The last two days, I have experimented with the faux letterpress technique. You can read about this technique here. It’s a lot of fun but as I messed around with different ink colors, folders and ideas; my tables just got more and more cluttered. It didn’t help that I had an unfinished project hanging out on the table, as well as, some random stamping cards I had been working on and all the supplies that went with those items laying everywhere.

And this is just one of my tables. I have 2 more, one on each side of this one that look identical.  I wouldn’t even think about showing you the floor. It’s too shameful. Can anyone else relate? Cleaning this mess up will be my first priority in the morning.

Technique Tuesday: Faux Letterpress Card

One of my most favorite techniques is dry embossing. It is super easy to create beautiful cards using your embossing folders and embossing machine. CTMH has some great cardstock that has a white core and so after embossing you can take some sand paper and rub it over the cardstock revealing the core and highlighting those embossed images.
Today though, I am going to try a new-to-me technique called faux letterpress. I am going to use an embossing folder that I have that has anchors on it.
The first step is to take your embossing folder, open it, and on the inside rub your ink pad on the side of the folder that is flat, in other words, the side that does not have the raised design on it. Make sure you cover it completely.
Next, take a piece of white cardstock and put it in the folder and then run it through your embossing machine.
And, here is how the cardstock looks after embossing. The ink will have an uneven look to it. But, I think it looks really fun.  If you are using CTMH Ink Pads then, the ink does not stain your folder and simply washes off with water.
Here is my finished card. I absolutely love this technique and plan to use it often! I may try Cashmere or Desert Sand inks next time to give the card a vintage look.

Color Dare #189: The Kismet Edition

Color Dare

This week’s Color Dare uses the colors White Daisy, Thistle, Hollyhock, and Juniper. The stamp set, It’s the Little Things, is a past Stamp of the Month and it was sitting on my table, pulled out of the envelope, when I went upstairs this morning. I haven’t been in my craft room for a week so I have no clue why this set was laying out. I do know that I have a really bad habit of not always cleaning or putting my stamps away when I am done with them.  So, there it was. I was already thinking floral. It was kismet.

Heart 2 Heart Challenge: Photo Op

Could there be a better photo op then these two adorable twin toddlers? These pictures were taken a couple of years ago when my nieces came for a visit. Oh yeah, their parents were here too. But obviously, these two cuties were the center of attention.
I used CTMH Fundamental Papers and the stamp of the month Life in Pictures.
Check out the H2H Blog for more great layouts!

Mojo Monday #444

I love the Regatta paper and all the coordinating stamps! This Seasonal Expression has sooo much good stuff in it and it’s all about to end, unless you get your own supplies prior to April 30th! – when this Seasonal Expression is set to expire. Then, you can make so many wonderful projects. I even have a FREE 30 card Workshop for you. Just click the email icon at the top of the page and let me know you want it and I will send it to you! This workshop was created for all CTMH Consultants by Consultant Becky Lehman

And now, on to Mojo Monday, which happens to be Tuesday for me. I used the Regatta paper. Not sure if you can see it in the picture but the Sapphire has a wave/water design and the Glacier paper is kind of wavy. I picked these papers to go with the sentiment about making a splash. The stamp set is called Beach Days and it works with CTMH’s Artistry Cartridge. This can be purchased as a physical cartridge or digital. Our Cricut Collections come with stamp sets and cardstock not to mention 700 images!

I really wanted to put some googly eyes on my crab but the only eyes I have are NOT all that small. What do you think? Would smaller eyes work better?
Haha! Oh well, maybe I need to take a trip to Hobby Lobby! Anyways, here’s the inside.

Color Dare #188: The Way Too Late Edition

Color Dare

I missed last weeks Color Dare Challenge. The colors were from CTMH’s Regatta paper: Sapphire, Pomegranate, Glacier, Flaxen, and White Daisy. We homeschool and this past week got pretty busy. I started this layout and never got back to it in time.

I am not completely happy with it but I do love the colors!

Heart 2 Heart Challenge: Four

The Heart 2 Heart Challenge theme this week is 4, four of anything. Since this theme is pretty wide open it makes it a lot of fun to see what everyone comes up with.
This morning I thought I would try and learn a new technique. I got on YouTube and found something that looked interesting. Basically, you take a block and add different colored inks directly to the block, spritz with some water and then stamp the ink covered block on your paper. What you should get is a square of ink that looks like you water colored. Then, the idea was to stamp a “shadow” image over it. For this challenge, I was thinking of stamping four images. If your interested here is the video I watched. I am sure there are more out there.
I know, I could have just water colored but, again, I was looking for different techniques.
After stamping several times, I wasn’t digging what I was coming up with and it was starting to get late into the morning so I scrapped my card idea. I started some of my usual daily tasks and got my girls breakfast. While they ate I took my mess back up to my craft room. I just hated to throw out all the paper I had inked on so, I got the idea to take four of the 3″x3″ squares and cut them down to 1 3/4″ squares. And, this is ultimately what I came up with. I am glad I was able to turn what I thought had been a waste of time into a pretty decent card.

Mojo Monday #442

Mojo442

Ah…Monday. I am NOT a fan of Mondays but I am a fan of the Mojo Monday Sketches! And, I am also a fan of the Springtime Wishes stamp set! This stamp set is loaded with flower and leaf images. The sentiments are perfect and not only is there a sentiment for the outside of your card but, there’s also a matching sentiment for the inside of your card.

Springtime Wishes

For my card I used 3 of the coordinating papers from the Charlotte Paper Pack and edged them in Whisper ink. I stamped my sentiment, flower and leaves in Black. Card stock colors used are Whisper, Sorbet and White Daisy. And finally, for a little glitz, there is some black shimmer trim and a sparkle. All items are from CTMH and you can find them here on my website! The paper pack and stamp set will be discontinued at the end of this month.

Monthly Card Class: Stamps of Approval

Once a month I hold a card class at my home. Most of the ladies that attend are card makers only. I generally make up my own workshops. The cards could be ones I designed myself, are inspired by another’s artwork or are exactly like another’s artwork (always giving credit to the artist, of course). This month my cards are taken from the Seasonal Expression 1 Jan- April 2016 pg. 33. I changed mine up slightly. We are using the stamp set, Stamps of Approval and a little of the Regatta Paper Pack. The stamp set reminds me of a prep school badges. It has some great sentiments and is very versatile. Both items will be discontinued after April so if you haven’t purchased these items then now is the time to do so.

Color Dare #187: The Sparkly Green Gem Edition

Another Color Dare Challenge has arrived and this week we were dared to use green and white daisy! CTMH greens are Pear, Sweet Leaf, Fern, Topiary and New England Ivy. We could use any or all of them. I mostly used Pear. But I also used green glitter paper and ShinHan markers in Pastel Green (which I think matches Flaxen) and Leaf Green (which I think matches Pear).

This stamp set, Diamonds are Forever, is one of my favorite stamp sets from the current Annual Idea Book. Earlier this year I had a card kit available for sale using this set. One of the cards is similar to the card above.
